Oral Care for Special Needs

Good oral care is important for everyone but can often times be a challenge for those with special needs. Depending on their level of functioning your loved one may need simple stand by assistance or full care to be able to maintain proper oral care. Patients with special needs, conditions and disabilities deserve a team of professionals who are experienced and willing to work with them to create a comfortable, relaxing environment. We warmly embrace special needs patients in our office and, as a result, some of our most amazing and compliant patients are special needs patients.

What makes the staff at Rancho Cucamonga unique is our approach to oral care for special needs patients. We are careful with each patient and always make sure that the parents and patient are well-informed on the treatment and progress. If your child is initially skeptical about orthodontics or even just plain scared, we recommend that you bring them in once a month until your child feels comfortable with Dr. Stockdale , our staff, and our office environment. By seeing your child monthly, we are ensuring their comfort by building a relationship with them.

At Home Oral Care

One the first steps maintaining healthy teeth is to have a good at-home oral care routine. Choose a toothbrush and floss that is appropriate for those with special needs to make the process easier for them to use and you to explain. Look for oral care tools with larger handles, soft grips, or extended handles for ease of use. In some cases, specially made equipment may be an option for both brushing and flossing.

We encourage you to ask any questions while you are in our Rancho Cucamonga office. You can also give us a call if you have any questions, or if you would like to schedule a consultation with Dr. Stockdale . We look forward to serving your family!
